"Unique Mountain Development (UMD) is redefining site development and custom home building," states David Hall, Vice-President of this innovative Big Bear Valley business established in March 2002. President and owner, Dennis Hall, and his son David, along with Don Meyer, general contractor, incorporate a limited resource of premier building sites, unique custom interior and exterior architecture, quality features, workmanship and unparalleled service accountability. "Our commitment to energy efficiency and environmentally friendly construction methods support our philosophy of measured growth with an understanding and respect of the surrounding natural setting," says Dennis. "We feel privileged to work and live in such a beautiful location as Big Bear. We have a deep commitment not only to quality, but also to providing innovative technologies, and seek to be a catalyst for the use of renewable energy sources as well as resource conservation and reuse.
Don Meyer, a Valley resident and licensed general contractor for over 20 years brings to UMD a vast knowledge of the building industry and quality craftsmanship along with a strong sense of pride in his work and the Big Bear Valley. He and his wife Lisa are extremely active in the community volunteering many hours with organizations including the school and sports activities of their sons, Donny and Jake.
David Hall spent seven years in real estate and environmental management, most recently with Deloitte & Touche, in San Francisco. Three years ago he joined his father to create UMD in Big Bear Lake, a place he has loved since his childhood days at the family vacation home. David holds a Bachelor's degree from UCLA and a Master's degree from San Francisco State University concentrating Environmental Planning and Resource Management.
Dennis Hall brings 30+ years of corporate experience to his mountain enterprise. As a former executive with Sears Roebuck/Coldwell Banker, Prudential and General Motors, his familiarity with business success is well-known in the corporate world. His career began in corporate finance and accounting, later moving to process and operations management, eventually managing national sales and marketing specializing in Real Estate sales, management, and finance. Dennis and his wife Kay, a third grade teacher, permanently moved to Big Bear seven years ago after maintaining a vacation home here for nearly 20 years. After opting for early retirement from General Motors, Dennis created Unique Mountain Development, combining his love of the Valley, knowledge of solid business practices, and an understanding of the unique building technologies now available to better serve the environment and the customer. UMD focuses on some of the Valley's most pressing issues including water conservation, reuse and groundwater recharge. It also seeks to incorporate energy efficiency and utilization, in addition to fire protection and prevention in its home construction and site development. "Our love for nature, the outdoors, and particularly the Big Bear Valley," shares Hall, "forms a driving motivation to help lead in these important areas. This concept, coupled with a belief in 'moderation' and planned growth, works in the best interest of both the prospective home owner and the Valley where we live."
