Nestled in the San Bernadino National Forest, Big Bear is a mountain resort with spectacular weather throughout its four seasons. Located at 6,750 feet, the lake is eight miles in length and is as wide as one mile across. With a depth of up to 70 feet, over 20 miles of shoreline and a nearly five square miles surface, it provides the perfect centerpiece for a valley full of outdoor and indoor leisure and enjoyment.

Over 15,000 full time residents share their alpine community with day and weekend visitors. Because of its convenient location (only a one to three hour drive from Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego and Las Vegas) Big Bear's fantastic accessibility makes it a convenient getaway for all of Southern California - and there is plenty to do!

No matter the time of year, Big Bear offers a wide variety of outdoor enjoyment for everyone with over 300 days of sunshine a year. In the summer, temperatures average from near 80 degrees down to the high 40s at night. Lake activities include fishing, boating, sailing, water skiing and swimming. The surrounding valley and the mountains also provide plenty to do with golfing, mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, backpacking and camping. Wintertime is another busy season in the valley when Big Bear averages 120 inches of snow each year. Big Bear Mountain Resorts, composed of Snow Summit and Bear Mountain, have the best skiing and snowboarding in Southern California with 20 lifts, over 60 runs and the largest snow making capability of any resort west of the Rockies. As well, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails are abundant in the valley for exploring the flatter Big Bear terrain.

Nature enthusiasts have plenty to enjoy. The valley is home to a diverse community of native plants and animals including deer, great blue herons, pelicans, hawks, coyotes and an occasional mountain lion or brown bear. In the winter the valley is home to bald eagles that have chosen Big Bear's as their part-time home.

In addition to these outdoor activities, Big Bear has plenty of year-round shopping, fine dining, and entertainment. From day spas to an international film festival to a performing arts center, a wide variety of annual events keep this mountain resort town a place where you will never be bored - even if you chose to just relax!
